The candidate should have a broad base of knowledge of both systems administration and the visual effects production pipeline, along with experience of managing a department and budgets. The key focus of the role will be to support, develop and extend the existing pipeline while providing guidance to the hardware team. You will have a deep understanding how artists interface with their software, and how data flows through the production process.

Main responsibilities will include:

• Discussing pipeline requirements with other HODs and artists.
• Developing new pipeline tools for both 2D and 3D.
• Examining the existing pipeline and improve/re-develop where needed.
• Maintaining existing pipeline tools.
• Providing guidance to the hardware team.
• Managing production tech budget and expenditure.
• Ensuring security compliance with vendor requirements/recommendations.
• Installation, support & maintenance of workstations, servers and file storage.
• Ensuring infrastructure runs smoothly and reliably.
• Planning for expansion and future technical requirements.

Key attributes:

• 5 years experience in R&D within the VFX industry.
• Excellent at solving problems, diligent and resourceful.
• Good communication skills.
• Good time management skills.
• Experience leading a small team.
• Knowledge of C++ is not required, but would be an advantage.
• Experienced at configuring and managing Linux, Windows and OSX workstations/servers.
• Able to work well and communicate effectively with others in a team
